Prabhakar Kamble

Prabhakar Kamble is a conceptual and artist based in Mumbai, India.

He received a diploma in art education from L.S.Raheja School of Art, Mumbai, 2012.

Kamble’s recent work has dealt with issues of morbidity, discrimination and inhumanity. His work addresses social justice, the annihilation of caste, and the denial of these issues by institutions due to selective humanism and ruling class aesthetics negating subaltern expression.

In recent projects Kamble has developed a series of kinetic installations, drawings and performance under the title Existential. Kamble often paints large-scale portraits of Dr. Ambedkar for social equality movements around Maharashtra and is engaged in the promotion of the Dalit Literature and movement. His performances become complex commentaries in protest against the public lynching of Dalits.

Selected solo projects include Existential, Clark House Initiative, Mumbai, 2017; Agitation of Restless Mind, Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, 2016. Selected group projects include Dialogue, Dr. Fischer Peace Collection project, Curated by Ratna Gandhi, Israel and India; TAKE / THE / CITY, Curated by Niccolò Moscatelli, Punascha Parry, curated Pernod Ricard, Samit Das & Sumesh Sharma, Paris; India Re-Worlded: Seventy Years of Investigating a Nation, Curated by Dr. Arshiya Mansoor Lokhandwala, Gallery Odyssey, Mumbai; Busan International Art Festival, Korea, all 2017.
