Mieke Van de Voort

Mieke Van de Voort (1972–2011) was based in Amsterdam. Her work uses direct social and historical engagement with performance strategies. She exhibited widely internationally, including Driving out Discord (2009) a performance project taking place in the Transvaal neighbourhood of Amsterdam, a ‘Vogelaar’ neighbourhood, one that is known for its social, physical and economic problems. The Revolution That Didn’t Happen (2005) restaged the failed attempt of Dutch socialists and communists to start a revolution in 1918 and General States (2008) was staged at Casco, Office for Art, Design and Theory, in Utrecht. She also participated in the Shanghai Biennial, 2008.
