Nassim Azarzar: Hayat al Noujoum / La vie des étoiles, watercolour study 2024

A creative poetry workshop in the context of The Showroom Mural Commission: Hayat al Noujoum / La vie des étoiles by Nassim Azarzar. Join poet Laila Sumpton for a creative writing and art reflection workshop at The Showroom. We will explore Nassim Azarzar’s soundscape mural with its themes of migration and belonging, and create poems inspired by the artist’s work. This two-hour session is open to writers of all stages and writing in multiple languages is encouraged, if this feels right for you.

Laila Sumpton is a poet, performer and educator who works with schools, hospitals, galleries, museums and charities on a wide variety of poetry projects. She co-founded the reparative education organisation Poetry Vs Colonialism and is an associate artist with intergenerational charity Magic Me. She runs poetry workshops for Keats House, the Ministry of Stories and Jesuit Refugee Services amongst others. Laila co-edited Where We Find Ourselves an anthology from Global Majority writers published by Arachne Press and has been commissioned by the Tate Modern, the Tower of London and the Royal Free Hospital amongst others.

The Showroom Mural Commission 2024–25 is supported by Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Westminster City Council within the Culture and Community Grants Programme and The Westminster Foundation.
