To launch the book Stars at Midday –نجوم الضهر, please join us for a conversation between Noor Abed and artist Dima Srouji, moderated by Rachael Jarvis.
Stars at Midday –نجوم الضهر – is a personal production diary, published by Occasional Papers. It compiles visual and poetic notes from the production phase of Noor Abed’s film A Night We Held Between, filmed in Palestine in 2023 with family and friends. Like the film whose production it chronicles, the book interweaves narrative fragments, song and diaristic observations, creating a fusion of natural and composed sequences of movement, of documentary and fictional elements. Through a choreography of bodies, sites, stories, and temporalities, Abed’s work prompts contemplation on the manifestations of social action and resistance in everyday life.
Noor Abed is a Palestinian artist and filmmaker who works at the intersection of performance and film, alongside alternative pedagogy. She is the co-founder of the School of Intrusions, an independent educational collective in Ramallah, Palestine, and a recipient of the Han Nefkens Foundation/Fundació Antoni Tàpies film production award.
Dima Srouji is an architect and visual artist leading MA City Design: Underground Palestine, an architecture studio at the Royal College of Art in London. She works with a range of objects and materials to explore what cultural heritage and public space mean in the context of the Middle East, especially in Palestine.
Rachael Jarvis is Director of Mosaic Rooms and oversees its curatorial programme.
