New Schools Poet-in-Residence: Alfiah Jade Brown
Introducing The Showroom’s new Schools Poet in Residence Alfiah Jade Brown!
Alfiah is a London based visual poet, producer and facilitator who blends poetry with visuals, rhythm, and sound to create immersive storytelling. A passionate advocate for community arts, she has led workshops with Poetic Unity, Apples and Snakes and Bold Tendencies. Her debut poem-film I, Luv Ya West earned Word Play & Flow award nominations, and in 2025 premiered In Memory of Aunty Woody, a live, multimedia performance at Hay Festival.
Alfiah will work with Year 9 students at our local school, Ark King Solomon Academy, to create new spoken-word pieces inspired by the punk heritage of our area. These works will be performed at The Showroom in February, as part of our upcoming exhibition Slits are Girls by Ângela Ferreira.
This project is made possible by the generous support of the MaxLiteracy Awards. Funded by the Max Reinhardt Charitable Trust, MaxLiteracy supports galleries, museums, and visual arts organisations across the UK to deliver creative writing and literacy programmes within learning settings through the visual arts.
Our Schools Poet in Residence forms part of Imagining Futures, our schools and young people’s programme, supported by John Lyons Charity.
