Tropical Mutant Punk Funk Tapes with Bruno Verner

£6, concessions available
An evening with Bruno Verner, of punk-funk duo Tetine, exploring Tropical Punk as a living, shifting sensibility emerging from Brazil’s post-punk and underground music histories. The session approaches punk as an attitudinal force – something mutant that moves across time, geography and media. Through listening and conversation, Bruno Verner traces how DIY cultures, experimental sound practices, and countercultural aesthetics in Brazil have shaped a wider understanding of punk/post-punk as a way of thinking and acting through sound, politics, and performance.
The session moves between different temporalities and sonic worlds, from 1980s underground scenes to contemporary hybrid forms that blur experimental pop, funk carioca, spoken word, noise-ambient and post-minimal approaches. At its core, it reflects on how music becomes a space for political-aesthetic imagination and embodied expression.
Verner unfolds a constellation of references, practices and sonic fragments that open up punk as an ongoing process of mutation, rooted in Global South perspectives and shaped by modes of self-education, improvisation, transcreation and cultural reinvention.
