Schooling & Culture journal was a collaboration during the 1970s and 80s between a group of radical left educationalists and young working class school student. It was produced at The Cockpit Theatre, which is only a few minutes from The Showroom.

Since December 2014, convened by Russell Newell, the Schooling & Culture Working Group (comprised of educators, artists, organisers and some of the original contributors) have been meeting to discuss the potential of reactivating the journal. The group have been collectively discussing what a new issue of the journal would look like, what would it be about, who would be involved and who it would be for.

To focus and extend from these initial discussions, the Schooling & Culture Working Group are hosting a residency week – offering workshops, collective readings and meetings – and a public event to open up the discussion, socialise and further activate the archive. The ambition of these events is to explore the possibility of producing a new issue in 2016.

In addition to the facilitated workshops the Schooling & Culture Working Group are also keen to invite young people, educators, writers and artists who have an affinity with the journal, to look through the archive and develop content.
