Are you a Church Street Ward resident, student or worker interested in playing music and participating in a community performance?
We are looking for participants to take part in a series of music workshops with One World Orchestra which will culminate in an outdoor performance in the neighbourhood on Saturday 16 August. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with international musicians and be part of a public music performance.
About the workshops
This collaboration with One World Orchestra marks the conclusion of The Showroom’s year-long mural commission, Hayat al Noujoum / La vie des étoiles, by artist Nassim Azarzar. The workshops, led by professional musicians, will involve:
• Music Exploration: Discover diverse musical traditions and sounds, reflecting the cultural diversity of the Church Street Ward.
• Collaborative Creation: Develop new music inspired by Azarzar’s mural and its soundscape, which features themes of migration and belonging, with connections to regions such as Morocco, Kurdistan, Palestine, Venezuela, and Algeria. Participants will have the opportunity to play instruments and collaborate on a composition.
• Public Performance: Conclude the workshops by performing alongside orchestra musicians in a free, open-air concert at Broadley Street Gardens, next to Church Street Market. The concert is part of the Inside Out Festival Westminster 2025 and will be filmed.
Attendance
All workshops will be held at The Showroom (63 Penfold St, NW8 8PQ). Full attendance for all three workshop sessions and the final rehearsal and performance is required for the best experience of this co-creative project.
