Book Launch: Stephen Willats: Art Society Feedback
Wednesday 18 May 2011, 6.30–9pm
Free, no booking required.
Art Society Feedback is the first comprehensive monographic publication on the work of British artist Stephen Willats. Since the 1960s Willats has developed a pioneering practice based on collaboration, interactivity and participation.
The publication brings together five essays by internationally renowned curators and writers – Ute Meta Bauer, Brigitte Franzen, Tom Holert, Emily Pethick and Andrew Wilson – alongside a selection of Willats’ most important writings from over five decades. Published together for the first time, Willats’ texts form an integral part of his artistic oeuvre, however many of them have remained unpublished until now, or have been unavailable for some time. Revised for this publication, the texts are arranged chronologically, drawing a relation with key developments in the artist’s work. The texts not only document the theoretical background of his work, but offer clear methodological support for understanding his artistic processes, which are often based on participation and interaction. The texts are accompanied by reproductions of a selection of work from the 1960s to the present day.
For this special occasion, films by Stephen Willats and recordings by Audio Arts will be presented along with food and drinks.
The book will be available at a special launch price of £35 (usual retail price £48)
This event is hosted by The Showroom and Badischer Kunstverein.
