OPEN CALL: Poet-in-Schools
The Showroom is seeking a poet to lead a new schools project in collaboration with our local secondary school, beginning this January! This will be an exciting engagement project in response to our next exhibition opening at the end of February 2026 which is inspired by the history of punk in our local neighbourhood.
Over 10 paid workshops, you will:
• Collaboratively devise new poetry with students in Key Stages 3 and 4
• Develop a teaching and learning resource that can be used by teachers nationally.
• Explore the history of punk culture in our neighbourhood, as a practice of solidarity and protest.
• Work towards a final performance event with students, their teachers, parents and carers at The Showroom.
We are looking for a poet who:
• Has experience working with young people in school settings
• Is confident working with students with additional needs and English as an additional language (EAL)
• Is excited by experimentation, collaboration and community-focused practice
The workshops will take place on a weekly basis, subject to term dates and the school timetable.
To apply, please send:
• A CV
• A cover letter outlining your interest in the project and relevant experience
• 2-3 examples of your work (PDF or links)
